Walking, jogging or cycling? This time, I have chosen to walk. The oldest form of exercise enables me to observe and absorb things keenly while taking pictures.

I have given myself an assignment to identify different species of birds and trees along the way. Although my birding game has improved, the last time I tried to name plant species, I failed miserably. We will see how it goes today.

According to the information obtained from the park’s management, the paved trails I am pursuing span a cumulative distance of ten kilometers. The first time I came here, I rode a bicycle along all the designated cycling lanes. When I returned for the second time, I ran across four sectors. For the record, the splendid park is divided into five sectors.

It has been a while since I covered ten kilometers on foot. However, the proposed long walk shouldn’t be a problem, considering my regular and consistent workouts. Besides, the soothing songs of Nyandungu birds, coupled with the whistling sounds of the swaying trees, will undoubtedly be invigorating.

Nyandungu Urban Wetland Ecotourism Park covers an area of more than 120 hectares. It is home to more than 100 bird species and more than 60 plant species. The transformation of the old, degraded wetland into a model of urban ecotourism parks took six years to implement.

It’s a beautiful Tuesday morning here in Kigali. I am doing this on a weekday in order to avoid weekend crowds. As I embark on this exciting leisure walk, I invite you to join me. Let’s go!
