Nyungwe Nziza Ecolodge is located in Kitabi Sector, Nyamagabe District. Surrounded by one of Africa’s well preserved rainforest, sprawling tea plantations and beautiful rolling hills, the view from my latest coffee break venue is spectacular.
This was my second coffee break of the day. The first one took place at Chimpanzee Lodge on the other side of the forest. The two stopovers were separated by an hour of zigzagging across the biggest protected area in the Albertine Rift.
The meandering trans Nyungwe highway has many steep gradients and slopes. The views from elevated spots are breathtaking. While crossing the forest, I was awestruck by the sight of thick vegetation winding through the landscape, covering the surface and falling over deep valleys.
Nyungwe Nziza’s fireplace is my favorite spot in the lodging facility. Since I wasn’t there to camp, I consumed my favorite aromatic beverage from the open air restaurant before resuming my adventure ride towards Huye.
Speaking of camping, there are deluxe tents set up on elevated wooden structures with mini balconies overlooking the forest. Deluxe camping has become a popular phrase in the travel industry lately. Also known as glamorous camping, or simply glamping, this trend is a fusion of luxury and simplicity. It is ideal for tourists who need to bond with nature without compromising the comfort of their own bedrooms.
If camping is not your thing, you can book a deluxe bedroom instead. Activities offered include a variety of wildlife experiences, volunteerism, tea experience, cultural excursions and community-based tourism.
As I sipped my coffee, I couldn’t stop marveling at the forest. During sunset, the sky glows. Watching the sun dropping on the other side of the forest is a spectacle you would want to witness one day.
