Today’s coffee break venue is Café Inganji. Located on the main Kigali - Rubavu highway, the coffee shop attracts both business and leisure travelers traversing one of the busiest routes in Rwanda.

The location of this joint is strategic. Connecting Kigali to Rwanda’s most popular tourist attractions and DR Congo’s North Kivu Province, RN 4 rises sharply toward Kanyinya before snaking to the Northern Province.

Speaking of the Northern Province, the Volcanoes National Park and the twin lakes are some of the administrative area’s magical creations. In addition, my favorite hiking trails are found on a grandeur of hills embellishing the surface of its five districts.

Fuelled by a cup of cappuccino, I am about to proceed to Rusiga Sector, Rulindo District. The plan is to join a group of hikers from Kigali and participate in a hiking outing dubbed Nyabarongo Hike.

The activity entails strolling from Rusiga Highland Resort to Nyabarongo River. A short break on the bank of the longest river in Rwanda will be followed by a more physically taxing challenge — toiling back to the hill, up to 2,400 meters above sea level, through a different trail. Yes, the return leg is expected to be more difficult, but that’s the beauty of it.

Our Rulindo day out will be capped by a barbecue in the garden of the aforementioned resort. Since I don’t know most of the participants, the bbq will be a great opportunity to make new friends. I can’t wait.
