I am writing this piece from Delimuti Café, a charming spot nestled in Gisozi Sector, within Gasabo District. I’ve stopped by to take a breather and sip some water.
This time around, I am heading to the Northern Province on foot. Yes, I’ve chosen to put my feet to work. After all, I need to shed off the weight I gained during the festive season.
My destination isn’t set in stone; while I plan to head north, there’s a good chance I might continue to the Western Province and eventually arrive at the serene shores of Lake Kivu. How far I go depends entirely on how well my body handles the long treks.
So far, I’ve been walking for three hours and am still within Kigali. That’s not surprising, as my journey began in the city’s eastern suburbs, and the exit lies on its western edge. Today’s goal is to walk for five hours. As ambitious as it sounds, I feel like I could sustain this routine of daily five-hour walks indefinitely.
The plan is to spend the night on the bank of Nyabugogo River, in the outskirts of Kigali. It’s a perfect spot to reflect and recharge before I proceed to Rulindo through a scenic trail snaking alongside Nyabarongo River.
As an explorer with an insatiable fascination for water bodies, this trek presents yet another opportunity to immerse myself in their beauty. I look forward to observing the rhythm of rivers and the majesty of lakes, all while soaking up the landscapes shaped by the Rwanda’s iconic hills, valleys, waterfalls, and gorges.
