The last time I updated this section, I was sojourning at the serene Umuko Lodge, with the soft murmurs of Lake Muhazi just below my balcony. After hitting the 'publish' button, I packed up my belongings and gave in to the quiet call of discovery, wandering a little farther along the stunning lakeshore.
I’m currently staying at the neighboring Vox Wagen Campsite. Well, I’ve actually been here since I left Umuko Lodge. Now, let me clarify: despite its name, Vox Wagen isn’t your typical campsite bustling with tourists and tents pitched under the stars — not yet, at least. It is still a private property. Plans are underway to eventually open its doors to travelers seeking something different. And trust me, something different is exactly what I have found.
I’ll share more about the unique setup of Vox Wagen later, but first, let me tell you about the room that cradled my dreams last night. The room in question is tucked inside a locally crafted boat — a beautiful vessel designed to resemble a miniature cruise ship. Stepping aboard felt like entering a secret world where craftsmanship, creativity, and the spirit of the lake itself came together to offer a truly unforgettable night.

This is my second time at Vox Wagen. The first time I showed up, the purpose of the trip was to interview a young Ghanaian biker on an extraordinary journey—touring 30 African countries on a motorcycle. His spirit of adventure and stories he carried with him were nothing short of remarkable. I'll share the link to his story at the bottom of this piece.
For now, I find myself writing these words from the same spot where that conversation took place — on the deck of the aforementioned vessel, docked on the edge of the lake. There’s something poetic about returning to this place, not as an interviewer chasing a story, but as a traveler settling into the moment, letting the stories find me instead.
Before I dive into today's exciting activities, I promised to share a bit more about the room I spent the night in. Didn't I? Well, as it turns out, I had another tempting option. Picture this: a room set up inside a vintage Volkswagen Kombi. Yes, you heard that right — the iconic van, transformed into a cozy, comfortable room. How cool is that? Next time, I'll sleep in one of those. In fact, I'm seriously considering adding an extra night here to make that happen sooner rather than later.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's revisit the room on the boat. To be honest, there's nothing much to report about my time downstairs. The moment my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light. However, there was one small interruption in the wee hours of the morning. I was deep into slumberland when I head voices outside my window. Naturally, I pulled back the curtain and peeked out. There, on a small wooden canoe, were two fishermen gliding seamlessly through the surface of the lake, lost in their own world. They didn't seem to notice me, and I figured it was best to stop poking my nose into other people's business. So, I closed the curtain and tucked myself back into bed.
Ooh, I almost forgot. I made another promise: the link to the inspiring story of the Ghanaian adventurer on a year-long motorcycle tour across Africa. Click HERE to read it.
